TIPS FOR PARENTS

Lunch/Snack

  •  The students are given a time in the morning for a snack. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack packed in their lunch.
  •  Homework needs to completed on a daily basis.  There are usually no homework assignments given on Friday, but occasionally, your child my need to study for a quiz or a test over the weekend.    I suggest having a nice quiet spot to do homework and complete the assignments as soon as you get home.  Homework must be written in the agenda on a daily basis.  Homework assignments, as well as upcoming tests , are posted in the classroom.

Organization/Agendas

  • CHECK AGENDAS EVERY DAY TO MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS WRITING EVERYTHING DOWN.  THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
  •  You can expect your child to use their agenda daily.  They will use these agendas to write down their homework daily and to write down long-term assignments. Please check the agendas regularly to be certain assignments are recorded on a daily basis.  Agendas also serve as a great communication tool if you need to communicate with a teacher on a daily or weekly basis.

How can we help each other?

  •  Your children will have about 30 minutes of homework each night.  Plan a place that the homework can be done without distractions from electronics of all sorts.  For some families, this might be the kitchen table, for others, a desk in the bedroom.  Children have varying degrees of independence and need varying amounts of support on assignments.  You may need to adjust expectations to meet the needs of your child.
  • Communication—our faculty members can be reached at school and via e-mail.  It is almost always helpful for teachers to know if there is a problem as soon as possible.  Teachers should be alerted to incidents such as bullying, melt-downs over homework assignments, and the like in a timely way.
